Weekend Cooking: Appliance Aggravation

Yes, it's been quiet here in our kitchen. The oven broke over the 4th of July weekend, and has been a source of ongoing frustration ever since.
After waiting nearly a week for the repairman, a part needed to be ordered. Two weeks later, the part finally arrived... then it took several more days to get a service appointment.

Our Big Day was set for Tuesday. At 7:30 AM "John", bearing said part, knocked on the door. Scheduling this early appointment would allow me to try a recipe from United Cakes of America before temperatures climbed into that uncomfortable range.  Margot reviewed the cookbook last month, my library hold had been in over a week, and I was anxious to get started.

Well, "John" fiddled around in the oven for over 30 minutes before announcing that he had the wrong part. He informed me that one of "the girls" would call when the correct part arrives... and, incidentally, it cost $100 more than the first part. What??? Another two weeks without my oven? I calmly told "John" he was a very lucky man. If this had been November, there would surely be bloodshed!

So, no picture of a beautiful cake today. We'll see what next week brings...

Weekend Cooking, hosted at Beth Fish Reads, is open to anyone with a food-related post to share: Book (novel, nonfiction) reviews, cookbook reviews, movie reviews, recipes, random thoughts, gadgets, fabulous quotations, photographs. Oh Joann - I am so sorry that you have had to deal with this frustration. At least you have the option of grilling in August.

I also obtained United Cakes of America from the local library as a result of Margot's recommendation - and I was sad that I had to return it this week. I think it might go on my Christmas wishlist.

What a shame! I hope this doesn't take much longer.

Right on, if this would have been in the fall or winter, the bitch in me would have reared her ugly head and made a spectacle. Grilling is better in the summer anyway, plus my grill has an oven in it! (For the hurricane season, you see...)

Grrrr! Still, better in August than November, as you say. They should charge you the same price, regardless of the part since it was their mistake....
Good luck!

I know how aggravating a non-working stove/oven can be as I have been there. I hope to see a cake posted on here soon! Until then, hope you have lots of grill recipes to keep you busy....

Sorry you're having so much happen at once. On the bright side, it's warm and you can grill.

Mine is HERE

Beth F - Exactly. John would be in big trouble otherwise!

Softdrink - LOL!

Molly - There were quite a few recipes in there I wanted to try. I'll put my name back on the list after the oven is repaired.

Lynne - I'm telling myself it's going to be at least 2 more weeks :-(

Sandy - Oh, this would have been ugly a few months from now - believe me!!

DS - Maybe I'll ask them to reduce the price because of 'pain and suffering'!

Caite - No cake is the worst part ;-)

Kim - I have a ton of grill recipes to try. It's been fun to make my way through those, if nothing else...

Vicki - Exactly! We normally grill almost every night in the summer anyway.

a 2-week delay?
$100 more?
calling the admin staff "girls"?

John is lucky he got away in one piece!

Dawn - Just one irritant after another... would never have been so 'understanding' in November!

How frustrating! However, it's been so hot here this past week, I can't imagine having the oven on! Hope all is repaired soon.

Les - It's been another week now, and still no part! Guess what my first call Monday morning will be.
